Animal Medical Services P.C.   (AMS)

Animal Medical Services began in 1982 in a small west side office in Evansville. From the onset, a portion of the practice was devoted to exotic and zoo animals and the first major client was the City of Evansville and Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden. Since 1982, the AMS location has changed three times culminating in our present and largest location on Mt. Vernon Avenue.  Throughout its history, AMS has been devoted to pets and their owners. We take great pleasure in having always been "user friendly."

As our practice has grown, the services that we offer have grown as well. Elsewhere in this web site you will find a list of our services. If you don't see a service listed, contact us--- that service may have been added since the last update of this site.

T.C. "Craig" Butler DVM graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1977. Prior to his education at Purdue, Dr. Butler attended Reitz High School and the University of Southern Indiana. During his senior year at Purdue, Dr. Butler received the award for "Highest Clinical Proficiency in Both Small and Large Animals." Upon graduation, Dr. Butler was engaged in Small Animal (primarily dog and cat) and Equine (horse) Veterinary Practice. His interest expanded to exotic animals in 1981 and he became veterinarian for Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden in 1982. That interest in reptiles, birds, and exotic animals has expanded to include those owned privately in Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky.

Dr. Butler has been a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association, and the Southwestern Indiana Veterinary Medical Association, serving as secretary-treasurer, vice-president, and president of the latter organization. He has served as secretary and staffing chairman on the board of directors for the All Pet Emergency Clinic during its development and during its first three years of operation and is currently serving again, this time as an elected board member. He has also been active in local civic organizations. He is a life member of the Purdue Alumni Association, and the Vanderburgh County Humane Society.

Dr. Butler and his wife, Tammy, have a blended family that includes Nathan, Erin, Mindy, Lindsey, and Cassie, as well as two dogs, five cats, and two birds.

Dr. Butler and Tammy are charter members of American Baptist East and sing in both the choir and on the Praise Team. They also proudly participate in the Evansville Ecumenical Choir and the TriState Tres Dies.

Tammy  is a proud graduate of North Posey High School and Dr. Butler's wife since 1994. She has worked for AMS for 15 years as receptionist, kennel assistant, groomer, veterinary assistant and now technician and office manager. She is active in her church and is pictured here with her pride and joy, Diamond, a Maltese. Tammy loves animals and enjoys every moment of her day working with your pets.

We are very proud to offer professional pet grooming by one of the premier groomers in Southern Indiana, Christina King. Chris has an excellent, homey way with both pets and their owners. She is a caring individual that you will appreciate. Grooming is offered on an appointment basis Monday through Friday.  You can drop off your pet between 7 and 8 a.m. and pick up at an agreed upon time . Each groom includes a haircut, bath, nail trim, removal of the hair in the ears, ear cleaning, and anal sac expression.
